NextEra Energy flew from Palm Beach International to William P. Hobby Airport late Monday night, landing N47MW — one of its three Embraer Praetor 600s — in Houston just after midnight on June 9. The 2-hour, 13-minute hop from KPBI brought the company’s executives to a city that sits near the heart of its newly approved natural-gas generation strategy.

The same week, NextEra Energy is working to advance the Texas leg of a 10-gigawatt natural-gas buildout approved by President Trump in March, as reported in a company news release. The hub, developed with Comstock Resources, is part of a larger “15 by 35” channel targeting 15 GW of new generation for data center hubs by 2035, per NextEra’s Q4 2025 earnings call. With 20 data center hubs in active development and discussions with hyperscalers like Google and Meta already yielding contracts, Houston is ground zero for the utility’s bring-your-own-generation pitch.

The flight is consistent with NextEra Energy’s recurring pattern of visits to Texas (KIAH, KAUS, KHOU) for regulatory meetings, hub site tours, and customer negotiations. CEO John Ketchum has previously noted that every gigawatt of new power represents roughly $2 billion in capital expenditure — making each trip to the region a multi-billion-dollar bet on America’s electricity load growth.
