Chevron flew from Sugar Land to Midland on June 11, 2026, a 62-minute hop in its Boeing Business Jet N884GL. The flight touches down at Midland International Air and Space Port, gateway to the Permian Basin, where Chevron is a dominant operator.
The same week, news broke that Chevron, through its subsidiary Energy Forge One, is seeking a state tax abatement worth over $227 million to build a natural gas-fired power plant that would feed electricity exclusively to a Microsoft data center, per a report from cnnbreak.com published this week. The “behind-the-meter” plant would bypass the ERCOT grid — a notable first under Texas’s new JETI incentive program. Chevron confirmed an exclusivity agreement with Microsoft and Engine No. 1 on the project.
Chevron’s fleet has been active across Texas and Colorado in recent days, with at least four flights landing at Midland-area airports since June 8, suggesting sustained executive attention on Permian operations and the emerging data-center power business. CEO Mike Wirth, speaking at a conference in late May, warned that global oil markets are losing their shock absorbers — making the timing of new, captive demand from AI infrastructure all the more strategic.
