Costco Wholesale’s Gulfstream G280, tail N82CW, departed Boeing Field on May 12, 2026, and returned 14 minutes later, having reached a maximum altitude of just 825 feet. The brief hop, essentially a local airing of the aircraft, came the same week the company’s tariff-refund strategy remained a live topic in earnings discussions. As covered by Digital Commerce 360, CEO Ron Vachris told investors in March that Costco Wholesale would transparently return any IEEPA tariff refunds to members through lower prices, though the process remains unclear per a Supreme Court ruling in February.
Meanwhile, Business Insider reported on May 10 that Costco Wholesale is a big winner as drivers flock to cheaper gas, with U.S. comparable sales up 11.7% in April and fuel sales contributing three percentage points of that growth. The company’s April sales results, released May 6 via GlobeNewswire, showed total net sales of $23.92 billion, a 13% increase year-over-year.
This local flight follows a pattern of recent trips by Costco Wholesale’s fleet, which on May 8 saw the same aircraft fly from the Chicago area to the Washington, D.C. region, and on May 6 from Duluth to Chicago. The brief Boeing Field circuit suggests routine maintenance or crew positioning rather than a business meeting, but the context of tariff maneuvering and fuel-driven foot traffic gives the moment its weight.
