Dominion Energy
Dominion Energy flew from Richmond International Airport to Groton New London Airport on May 19, a 63-minute hop aboard its Gulfstream G450, tail number N607D. The destination, near the Millstone nuclear power station in Waterford, Connecticut, is a site the utility has been eyeing closely as it seeks to recontract the facility's output.
The same week, Dominion Energy faces a key milestone in its effort to secure a new power purchase agreement for Millstone. According to an investor presentation following the company's first-quarter earnings call, management expects "increasing clarity later this year" on recontracting, with the plant having submitted a bid in Connecticut's zero-carbon energy request for proposals. Solicitation decisions are due in the second quarter, with negotiations likely beginning in the third quarter, per a recap by Stock Observer. CEO Bob Blue noted that current contracts cover a little more than half of Millstone's output through August 2029.
The trip to Groton is a departure from the company's regular circuit among its regulated markets in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In the days prior, the aircraft made several hops within the Southeast, including a Richmond-to-Columbia round trip. The visit to Connecticut suggests the Millstone recontracting effort has entered a decisive phase.
