Dominion Energy
Dominion Energy flew from Richmond International Airport to Columbia Metropolitan Airport on May 21, a 50-minute hop aboard its Gulfstream G450 (N607D). The trip, arriving just before noon, came the same week the company agreed to be acquired by NextEra Energy in a $66.8 billion deal that will create one of the world's largest electric utilities, according to a report from CNBC TV18. Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, sits in Dominion's service territory, making the visit a likely stop for discussions with regulators, employees, or stakeholders about the merger's implications.
The flight follows a week of unusual travel for Dominion's fleet. Over the previous three days, the same Gulfstream shuttled between Richmond and Groton, Connecticut — home to Dominion's Millstone nuclear power station — before returning to base. The Richmond-to-Columbia leg suggests management is actively working the deal's regional angles, perhaps meeting with South Carolina utility regulators who will need to approve the transaction. With the merger expected to close in 12 to 18 months pending multiple regulatory reviews, every face-to-face meeting counts. For Dominion, the business of selling power has become the business of selling itself.
