Dominion Energy
Dominion Energy flew from Bermuda High Gliderport in South Carolina to Groton New London Airport on Thursday, a 1-hour-56-minute hop in its Gulfstream G450. The trip lands the Richmond-based utility in southeastern Connecticut the same week Virginia lawmakers heard expert testimony on Dominion Energy's proposed $67 billion merger with NextEra Energy, per a VPM report.
The merger—announced in May and requiring approval from regulators in Virginia, the Carolinas, and multiple federal agencies—has drawn cautious responses from energy watchdogs who urge rigorous review. As covered by WHRO this week, groups like Clean Virginia and the Virginia Poverty Law Center are pressing for affordability protections, noting the deal would create the nation's largest regulated electric utility.
Dominion Energy's N607D has visited Groton twice in June, after earlier legs from Richmond to Columbus, Ohio, and West Palm Beach. The pattern suggests recurring meetings in the Northeast as Dominion Energy navigates what NextEra CEO John Ketchum called "the scale to deliver generation and grid investments" for rising electricity demand.
