Moffett Field, a NASA and military airfield in Mountain View, is the closest general aviation hub to xAI's Bay Area offices, making it a routine staging point for the executive.

The brief flight follows a pattern of Musk using his fleet for short repositioning hops around the Bay Area. His primary aircraft, Gulfstream G650ER N628TS, was recorded flying from San Jose to Los Angeles earlier this week, suggesting the G550 was moved to Moffett to free up hangar space or undergo pre-flight checks for a longer trip.
