Evan Spiegel flew from a private airfield near Barcelona, Spain, to Los Angeles on June 14, arriving just before dawn on June 15 after an 11-hour, 59-minute transatlantic flight aboard a Boeing 737 MAX 8 BBJ. The timing is no coincidence: Spiegel is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Augmented World Expo in Long Beach on June 16, where he is expected to unveil Spectacles, Snap's long-awaited consumer augmented reality glasses [iddevice.com](https://idevice.com/snap-spectacles-awe-2026). The company has spent $3 billion developing the standalone AR headset, which it calls "Specs," and Spiegel has described the moment as a make-or-break "crucible" for Snap [moneywise.com](https://moneywise.com/managing-money/employment/snap-layoffs-evan-spiegel-coachella-severance).

Spiegel's flight from Europe follows a very public week: on June 11, he and his wife Miranda Kerr co-hosted a party in Paris with artist JR [redcarpet-fashionawards.com](https://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2026/06/11/celebrities-at-the-jr-x-evan-spiegel-paris-party/). Now he is back on the West Coast, where Snap is headquartered in Santa Monica, to present the device that will define the company's future. The keynote, titled "Making Computing More Human," will be livestreamed at 9:30 a.m. Pacific on June 16 [snap.com](https://newsroom.snap.com/awe-2026-save-the-date).

Snap has been positioning itself for this launch for more than a decade, and Spiegel has been a regular attendee at tech conferences in and around Los Angeles. This particular appearance, however, carries unusual weight: if Spectacles ships this fall as expected, it will make Snap the first major tech company to bring standalone AR glasses to consumers, beating Meta and Apple by at least a year [idevice.com](https://idevice.com/snap-spectacles-awe-2026). For Spiegel, the flight from Spain to LAX was just the final leg of a longer journey.
