Marathon Oil
Marathon Oil flew from Dupage Airport to Indianapolis International Airport on May 18, a 50-minute hop aboard its Gulfstream V, tail N540M. The flight touched down at 1:05 p.m. local time.
The same week, ConocoPhillips is closing in on the final stages of its $17.1 billion acquisition of Marathon Oil, a deal that closed in the fourth quarter of 2024, per Hart Energy. The combined company is targeting over $500 million in annual cost and capital synergies within the first full year, and has begun marketing a package of Delaware Basin assets that could fetch over $1 billion, according to reports. Indianapolis sits near the heart of the Midwest refining and logistics network, a region where Marathon Petroleum — a separate entity — has significant operations, though Marathon Oil itself is an E&P company.
Recent flight patterns show Marathon Oil’s Gulfstream V has been shuttling between Chicago-area airports and smaller Midwestern fields, including multiple trips to Dupage and Indianapolis over the past week. The Indianapolis stop may signal meetings tied to post-merger asset rationalization or operational planning as ConocoPhillips works to deleverage and streamline the combined portfolio.
