Marathon Oil
Marathon Oil flew from Indianapolis International Airport to Quad City International Airport on the evening of May 21, a 57-minute hop in its Gulfstream V, tail N540M. The departure came hours after the Federal Aviation Administration activated temporary flight restrictions and preferred arrival routes for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the 500 is scheduled for May 24, per an FAA domestic notice.
The same week, the FAA warned pilots of frequency congestion and wake turbulence near Indianapolis, urging adherence to preferential IFR routes. The aircraft's recent flight history shows a flurry of activity in the region, including multiple hops between smaller Midwest airports in the days prior—consistent with the pattern of corporate aircraft shuttling executives to and from the race.
Marathon Oil, an independent exploration and production company headquartered in Houston, maintains a Gulfstream V for executive travel. While the purpose of this specific leg is unconfirmed, the timing and destination—just downriver from the speedway—suggest a return home or a repositioning after a weekend at the Brickyard.
