Marathon Oil flew from Chicago-area Dupage Airport to Indianapolis International Airport on May 29, a 40-minute hop aboard its Gulfstream V, N540M. The flight arrived just after 1 p.m. local time, touching down at a city that is neither a traditional base nor a routine destination for the Houston-based independent producer.
Indianapolis is hosting the 2026 Global Energy & Infrastructure Summit this week, according to an agenda published by the event organizer on May 25. Marathon Oil, which completed its merger with ConocoPhillips in November 2024, is listed among the sponsor companies. Per a Reuters report on Wednesday, ConocoPhillips executives are scheduled to sit on a panel titled “Permian Basin Consolidation: Where Do We Go From Here?” The arrival of Marathon Oil’s dedicated Gulfstream V — which still carries the legacy oil company's tail number — suggests pre-summit logistics or preparatory meetings ahead of the main event.
The flight pattern leading up to the Indianapolis landing shows unusual activity in the Great Lakes region over the preceding two days. N540M hopped among Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Toledo, and Eau Claire before consolidating at Dupage and then heading to Indianapolis. This is a departure from Marathon Oil’s typical network of Houston, Oklahoma City, Minneapolis, and Washington D.C. — a sign that real-economy events, not just recurring routes, drive the schedule.
