Marathon Oil lands in Moline the week of Mid-Con supply tightness
A 28-minute hop to Quad City hints at the company's focus on Midwest diesel and gas markets.

Marathon Oil
Marathon Oil flew from Holland Air Park in Wisconsin to Quad City International Airport on June 5, a 28-minute hop in the Gulfstream V (N540M) that touched down around midday. The short flight, at an altitude of 21,025 feet, is one of several recent legs across the upper Midwest.
Marathon Oil arrives the same week analysts are watching Mid-Con refining margins closely. On the company’s Q1 2026 earnings call, per a transcript published by The Globe and Mail, executives described the Mid-Con as “the best market we have right now,” with extreme tightness on gasoline and diesel inventories and strong seasonal demand. The company also noted its jet-fuel margins are robust. Quad City sits at the edge of that supply-strained region, near Marathon Oil’s Robinson, Illinois, refinery, which saw planned maintenance in the quarter.
The flight fits a pattern: over the prior three days, Marathon Oil’s Gulfstream V crisscrossed Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana, with stops in small cities like Eau Claire and Waterloo. The company has used the same aircraft for trips to Oklahoma City, Minneapolis, Washington, and Dubai. For now, Moline looks less like a leisurely stop and more like a signal of where Marathon Oil sees its next barrel moving.
