Marathon Oil
Marathon Oil’s Gulfstream V (N540M) flew a local pattern out of Spirit of St. Louis Airport (KSUS) on the evening of June 5, 2026, operating a brief, low-altitude hop that climbed no higher than 550 feet and reached just 128.7 knots. The aircraft remained in the St. Louis area, suggesting a positioning or test flight rather than a cross-country trip.
The same week, Blackbird Partners officially began presales for “The Nest at SUS,” a 12.7-acre complex of eight individually owned, concrete-built hangars at the same airport, as reported by AirPro News on April 22. Designed for ultra-long-range jets like the Gulfstream V, the project targets corporate flight departments seeking long-term asset control rather than traditional leases. Marathon Oil, which merged with ConocoPhillips in November 2024 and maintains a Houston headquarters, could be evaluating infrastructure options for its post-merger fleet.
Recent flight data shows N540M has visited KSUS multiple times in early June, with patterns that also include stops at Midwestern airports such as KEAU and KCID. Spirit of St. Louis, already a hub for business aviation with 24-hour U.S. Customs and on-site FBOs, is positioning itself as a base for companies that need dedicated hangar space for next-generation jets — a need Marathon Oil’s Gulfstream V would meet.
