Mukesh Ambani
Mukesh Ambani flew from Navi Mumbai International Airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport on May 12, 2026 — a short local hop that likely served as a test or repositioning flight for his Boeing 737 MAX 9 BBJ, VT-AKV. The aircraft, India’s first MAX 9 BBJ and customized for over $120 million, has been shuttling Ambani between Mumbai, Gujarat, and overseas destinations in recent months.
The same week, Reliance Industries is expected to begin a maintenance shutdown at its Jamnagar refinery complex, per a May 6 report from Business Standard. The shutdown, which follows Nayara Energy’s return from its own maintenance, will idle the world’s largest single-site refinery — capacity 1.4 million barrels per day — for three to four weeks. The government has been coordinating refinery schedules to ensure domestic fuel supplies are not disrupted amid ongoing West Asia tensions.
Ambani’s return to Mumbai also comes as Reliance prepares for the Jio Platforms IPO, which may now offer entirely new shares rather than an existing investor sale, according to an Economic Times report on May 11. The listing, potentially India’s largest ever, could be delayed to July as the company finalizes its draft prospectus.
