Mukesh Ambani flew from Mumbai to Doha on May 14, 2025, aboard his Boeing 737 MAX 9 BBJ, VT-AKV. The trip lands him in Qatar the same week U.S. President Donald Trump arrives for a state dinner hosted by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the Lusail Palace, per a Firstpost report. Ambani was among a select group of invitees, marking his second meeting with Trump since the president's January inauguration.
The visit comes as Trump witnessed the signing of a record $96 billion deal between Qatar Airways and Boeing for up to 210 wide-body jets, as covered by BW Businessworld. Ambani's Reliance Industries has deep ties to both nations: Qatar's sovereign wealth fund QIA has invested roughly $1 billion in Reliance's retail venture, while U.S. tech giants Google and Meta hold equity in his digital arm. The meeting underscores Ambani's role as a bridge between Gulf capital and American business interests.
Ambani and his wife Nita attended Trump's inaugural dinner in January, and the family has maintained close ties with the Trumps for years. The Doha stop follows a pattern of high-stakes diplomacy by private jet — Ambani's MAX 9 has previously shuttled between Tokyo, Bangkok, and Jeddah for business and family events. This week, the destination was a palace dinner with two heads of state.
