Mukesh Ambani
Mukesh Ambani flew from Mumbai to Doha on Wednesday, according to sources cited by Hindustan Times and Times of India, arriving the same day the Emir of Qatar hosts U.S. President Donald Trump for a state dinner at Lusail Palace. The Reliance Industries chairman is not expected to hold formal business talks during the visit, per a Reuters report, but the meeting marks his second interaction with Trump since the president’s inauguration in January.
The trip comes as Reliance navigates shifting U.S. trade policies: the company lost a waiver to import Venezuelan crude after Trump imposed a 25% tariff on such purchases in March, a decision that directly affects the refiner’s supply chain. Meanwhile, Qatar Investment Authority holds a roughly $1 billion stake in Ambani’s retail venture, and the Gulf state recently pledged $10 billion in Indian investments following the Emir’s February visit to New Delhi.
Ambani, who counts Trump’s daughter Ivanka among guests at his son’s pre-wedding festivities last year, has been a regular on the global business circuit, shuttling between Mumbai, Delhi, and international capitals. Wednesday’s flight—aboard his Boeing 737 MAX 9 BBJ, VT-AKV—is the latest in a pattern of high-stakes diplomacy that blends corporate interests with personal ties to the Trump family.
