NextEra Energy
NextEra Energy flew from Orlando International Airport to Chicago on June 16, 2026, a 2-hour 17-minute hop in its Embraer Praetor 600, tail N47MW. The flight touched down on the southwest side of the city at 9:01 a.m. local time.
The same week, NextEra Energy’s parent company, NextEra, agreed to a $150 million proposed settlement to end a class-action lawsuit over past controversies involving Florida Power & Light, per the Florida Tribune. The settlement comes as NextEra Energy pursues a roughly $67 billion all-stock merger with Dominion Energy, announced in May, which would create the world's largest regulated electric utility, as covered by E&E News. The deal, which requires approvals from state regulators in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, as well as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, is expected to close in 12 to 18 months.
Chicago is not a regular destination for NextEra Energy’s fleet, which typically shuttles between its Florida base and hubs like Houston, Washington D.C., and San Francisco. The trip suggests a meeting tied to the merger’s regulatory or operational planning—perhaps with legal teams, bankers, or data center partners in a city central to the Midwest’s power grid.
