The short hop from Midland to Carlsbad comes two weeks after Vicki Hollub announced her retirement.

Occidental Petroleum flew its Embraer ERJ-175 from Midland International Air and Space Port to Cavern City Air Terminal on May 14, a 35-minute hop across the Permian Basin. The shuttle, tail number N170XY, arrived just before 2 p.m. local time.
The trip lands in Carlsbad the same week the company prepares for a leadership change. On May 1, Occidental Petroleum announced that CEO Vicki Hollub will retire effective June 1, with COO Richard Jackson taking over, per a company press release [globenewswire.com](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/05/01/3285910/0/en/Occidental-Announces-CEO-Succession.html). Hollub, who has led the company since 2016, will remain on the board [cnbc.com](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/01/occidental-names-veteran-richard-jackson-as-ceo-vicki-hollub-to-retire.html).
The flight is part of a recurring pattern: the ERJ-175 has shuttled between Houston, Midland, and Carlsbad multiple times in recent days. Carlsbad sits near Occidental’s Delaware Basin operations, a key asset in the portfolio Jackson will inherit.
