Occidental Petroleum landed its Embraer ERJ-175, tail N170XY, at Houston Bush Intercontinental on May 28 at 11:07 p.m. Central, after a one-hour hop from Midland International Air and Space Port. The aircraft spent the day shuttling among Midland, Houston, and points around the Permian Basin—consistent with its role as a crew transport among Occidental Petroleum's Texas operations.
The flight arrives the same week Occidental Petroleum continues to staff its sprawling Permian Basin operations, where its enhanced oil recovery and carbon-capture projects—including the world's largest direct-air-capture plant under construction in Ector County—keep demand high for technical and operational personnel. No public event or major announcement in Houston this week explains the trip; it is simply a company shuttle returning home after a day of moving staff between the Houston headquarters and the field.
This pattern is typical for the ERJ-175, which operates almost exclusively between Houston and Midland: four of the aircraft's eight flights on May 28 touched down in Midland or left from there. Occidental Petroleum's fleet also includes a Gulfstream G280 and G650ER for executive travel, but the ERJ-175 is the daily worker, keeping the company's crews connected to its core asset base in the Permian Basin.
