Occidental Petroleum
Occidental Petroleum flew from Odessa’s Schlemeyer Field to a private airstrip near Carlsbad, New Mexico, on June 2, a 42-minute hop in the company’s Embraer ERJ-175 (tail N170XY). The flight arrived at 14:19 UTC, touching down on a strip roughly 20 miles southeast of Carlsbad proper.
The same week, the Permian Basin Petroleum Association is holding its annual summer meeting in Carlsbad, per the association’s published event calendar. The gathering draws operators, regulators, and service companies active in the Delaware Basin, where Occidental Petroleum holds one of the largest acreage positions in the play. CEO Vicki Hollub has made the Permian the centerpiece of the company’s domestic production strategy.
The trip fits a pattern: the ERJ-175 has shuttled between Houston-area airports and West Texas airstrips at least six times in the past week, moving personnel between Occidental Petroleum’s Houston headquarters and its Permian field operations. This particular leg, however, skipped the usual Midland-Odessa hub for a destination closer to the state line—and to this week’s industry gathering.
