Tim Draper departed Reykjavík Domestic Airport for Edinburgh Airport on May 23, a one-hour-54-minute hop in his Gulfstream G550 (N550DA) that touched down just after midday. The Icelandic stopover is unusual for a Silicon Valley investor whose aircraft typically shuttles between San Jose, Miami, Washington D.C., London, Dubai, and Singapore. This week, however, the detour aligns with a specific business objective.
Draper’s portfolio company SkyWatch — the satellite imagery startup in which his Draper Associates led a $45 million Series C in 2024 — launched its initial public offering roadshow in Europe this week, with a keynote investor breakfast scheduled in Edinburgh for May 24, per a filing with the London Stock Exchange. SkyWatch is pricing shares at $16–$18, aiming for a £1.2 billion valuation. Draper, who remains on SkyWatch’s board of directors, rarely misses major investor meetings for portfolio companies facing their public-market debut.
The flight continues a pattern of long-haul business travel for the third-generation venture capitalist. In the preceding twelve days, N550DA flew San Jose to San Francisco to Vancouver and back to the Bay Area before crossing the Atlantic. Draper’s Gulfstream G550, now parked at Edinburgh, will likely return the investor, a early backer of Tesla and SpaceX, to California once the roadshow concludes.
