Truist Financial flew from DeKalb Peachtree Airport in Atlanta to Charlotte Douglas International Airport on June 17, a 52-minute hop in its Cessna Citation Latitude, tail number N405T. The trip lands the bank's leadership back at its Charlotte headquarters the same week the company announced a sweeping change at the top.
On June 15, Truist Financial named Michael P. Lyons as its next president and chief executive officer, effective September 1, per a company press release. Lyons, a 30-year banking veteran and former CEO of Fiserv, will succeed Bill Rogers, who becomes executive chair until his planned retirement in April 2027. The move marks the first outsider to lead the bank since the 2019 BB&T-SunTrust merger, as covered by Financial Planning.
The flight from Atlanta, a recurring destination in Truist Financial's pattern, follows a busy week of travel: the aircraft visited Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Greensboro in the days prior. The return to Charlotte suggests internal meetings tied to the leadership transition, as the bank enters what analysts call a transition year under new direction.
