Truist Financial flew from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to DeKalb Peachtree Airport on June 17, a 47-minute hop aboard its Cessna Citation Latitude, tail N405T. The flight arrives in Atlanta the same week the bank announced a sweeping leadership change, naming Michael P. Lyons as its next president and chief executive officer, effective Sept. 1, 2026, per a Truist press release. Lyons, a 30-year industry veteran and former Fiserv CEO, will succeed Bill Rogers, who will serve as executive chair until his planned retirement in April 2027.
Atlanta is a key market for Truist Financial, which has a significant presence in the Southeast following the 2019 BB&T and SunTrust merger. The trip follows a pattern of frequent visits to the region — the aircraft has made multiple stops in the Atlanta area over the past week, including a June 14 arrival from Greensboro. The visit likely involves internal meetings or client discussions tied to the succession plan, as the bank works to steady its course after years of missing financial targets.
The leadership shakeup comes as Truist Financial sets a higher profitability target, aiming for a 16% to 18% return on tangible common equity over the next three to five years, as reported by American Banker. With a new CEO on the horizon, the bank is signaling a fresh chapter — and Atlanta remains central to that story.
