Carlos Slim
Carlos Slim flew from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo to Toluca on the evening of May 24, a 34-minute hop in his Gulfstream G650, tail XA-CLR. The flight arrived at Adolfo López Mateos International Airport just before 10 p.m. local time, returning the businessman to his home base after what appears to have been a weekend stay on the Pacific coast.
The same week, Toluca International is positioning itself as a critical pressure valve for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19 across Mexico, the United States, and Canada. According to an OPSGROUP guide published this year, Mexico City airspace is expected to become saturated during the tournament, and Toluca — with its long runway, CAT II/IIIA approaches, and on-site customs — is the preferred private-aviation gateway for high-net-worth travelers heading to the capital. The guide notes that AFAC permit processing remains unpredictable and that slot controls may tighten, making Toluca a strategic hub for the influx of VIP traffic.
Slim's recent flight pattern shows he spent May 17 in the Acapulco area before returning to Toluca, and then departed again for Zihuatanejo on May 23. The brief turnaround from a beach weekend to home base suggests a routine repositioning, but the broader context of World Cup preparations means every movement in and out of Toluca carries a bit more weight this spring. The airport's role as the smartest gateway to Mexico City, as jetstime.com described it in their 2025 FBO guide, is about to be tested at scale.
