Corning flew from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to its home base at Elmira Corning Regional Airport on Tuesday afternoon, a 1-hour 12-minute hop aboard its Challenger 850 (N28CG). The return trip follows a pattern of recent visits to the Charlotte area, including flights earlier in the week.
The same week, Corning is in the midst of executing the massive manufacturing expansion it announced on May 6 alongside NVIDIA. As part of a multiyear partnership, Corning will increase U.S. optical connectivity capacity tenfold and build three new advanced manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas, creating more than 3,000 jobs, per the company's news release. Charlotte, as a major hub in the region, is a likely base for site visits and supplier meetings tied to that buildout.
The trip is the latest in a flurry of flights from Elmira to Charlotte and back, consistent with Corning's accelerated growth trajectory. The company upgraded its internal Springboard plan on May 6, now targeting a $40 billion annualized sales run rate by 2030, driven largely by AI infrastructure demand.
