Exelon flies to Eagle County as CEO Calvin Butler weighs utility affordability crisis

Exelon Corporation's Falcon 7X, N496AC, departed Cobbetts Pond Seaplane Base in New Hampshire on the evening of June 22 and arrived at Eagle County Regional Airport near Vail, Colorado, just before 4 a.m. Eastern on June 23, a flight of just under four hours.

The trip lands Exelon President and Chief Executive Officer Calvin Butler in Colorado the same week the company is grappling with a political and regulatory backlash over rising electric bills. Exelon's PECO subsidiary withdrew a $510 million rate case in Pennsylvania last month after Governor Josh Shapiro demanded the filing be scrapped, per coverage by RTW and TD World. On a May 6 earnings call, Butler announced the company is pulling back more than $1 billion in planned distribution investments while targeting $350 million in operational savings by the end of 2027, citing what he called a moment that “requires us to adapt, to be agile and make changes thoughtfully,” per Exelon's first-quarter earnings release and a separate Q&A with POLITICO's E&E News.

The flight to Eagle County follows a pattern of Exelon business travel to Colorado; the jet made a round trip between Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Denver just over a week earlier, on June 14–15. Eagle County is roughly 100 miles west of Denver but offers quick access to the Vail Valley, where utility industry events and executive retreats are often held.
