Lakshmi Mittal
Lakshmi Mittal flew from London Luton to Paris–Le Bourget on June 16, a 48-minute hop aboard his Bombardier Global 7500, G-LOBX. The short trip from one capital to another is routine for the executive chairman of ArcelorMittal, but the timing is anything but.
Mittal arrives in Paris the same week France’s National Assembly voted, for the second time, to nationalize ArcelorMittal’s French steel operations, per a June 14 report from NEWS NEST. The symbolic bill, driven by left-wing lawmakers, cites job cuts of 600–630 positions and concerns over industrial sovereignty. The government opposes the move, but the message is clear: the political temperature around Mittal’s European assets is rising.
The flight follows a busy week for Mittal’s jet. On June 12, G-LOBX flew a short hop within the UK; on June 11, it returned from New York; and on June 10, it crossed from Seattle to New York. The pattern suggests a man shuttling between continents as his company faces simultaneous headwinds in Europe and growth ambitions in India. Paris, this week, is where the storm is closest.
