Norfolk Southern
Norfolk Southern flew from Fulton County Airport in Atlanta to a private airfield near Washington Dulles on June 5, a 1-hour 17-minute hop in its Bombardier Challenger 605 (N157NS). The flight arrived shortly before 9 a.m. local time.
The same week, the U.S. House Transportation Committee is marking up the Railway Safety Act of 2025, per a committee schedule published on June 3. Norfolk Southern, which operates roughly 22,000 miles of track in the eastern U.S., has been a central figure in the push for new rail safety rules since the 2023 East Palestine derailment. CEO Mark George testified before Congress on the topic last year, and the company's government affairs team maintains a regular presence in the capital.
This trip fits a pattern: Norfolk Southern's Challenger 605 has flown to the Washington area at least three times in the past month, including a round trip on May 14 and a late-night arrival on May 8. The railroad's home base remains Atlanta, but the frequency of D.C. visits suggests the legislative calendar, not leisure, is driving the schedule.
