State Farm
State Farm flew from Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas to its Central Illinois Regional Airport headquarters in Bloomington on May 14-15, a 2-hour 45-minute hop aboard its Falcon 900EX (N22SF). The insurer’s home base has been busy: the same aircraft shuttled between Bloomington and Las Vegas four times in the prior week, suggesting high-level meetings.
The return comes as California regulators announced a sweeping enforcement action against State Farm, alleging it mishandled more than 400 claims from the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Per the California Department of Insurance, a market conduct exam found delayed payments, underpaid claims, and “adjuster roulette” in over half of sampled claims. State Farm could face millions in fines and a potential one-year license suspension in the state, according to a Bloomberg report on May 4.
With the administrative hearing set within 30 days, State Farm’s leadership likely returned to Bloomington to coordinate its legal response. The company has paid $5.7 billion on L.A. wildfire claims so far, but regulators say the process was “unacceptable.” For a mutual insurer owned by its policyholders, the reputational stakes are as high as the penalties.
