Dr. Charles Huang is a Chinese-American investor and philanthropist based in Pasadena, California. He took an MBA at the University of Strathclyde in 1989 and a PhD in marketing there in 1994, then spent his early career in Asian investment banking — James Capel (now HSBC Securities) in Hong Kong, CLSA and BNP Paribas — before moving into the automotive sector. In 2016 he founded Pasaca Capital Inc., a Pasadena private-equity house that describes itself as a multi-billion-dollar evergreen fund with holdings across medical devices, pharmaceuticals, TMT, industrials and entertainment in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
His best-known company is Innova Medical Group, which he founded and which became one of the world's largest distributors of rapid antigen and antibody COVID tests; he stepped back and then resumed the chief-executive role on 1 October 2022. Through the Charles Huang Foundation he has given £50M to Strathclyde (September 2021), $40M to Wuhan University (December 2021), $7M to San Francisco's Chinese Hospital and $7.5M to USC Arcadia Hospital (2022). Forbes China named him to its 100 Most Influential Chinese list in 2024.
