Stuart Sloan ran Schuck's Auto Supply before taking over Quality Food Centers with Jack Croco in 1986, taking it public in 1987, pushing it up-market against the regional chains and selling it to Fred Meyer for $1.7B in 1998. He co-founded Egghead Software, runs Sloan Capital Companies, and owns University Village — the open-air shopping center in northeast Seattle that is among the highest-grossing retail properties per square foot in the country. His philanthropy has been unusually concentrated. From 1998 he committed around $1M a year for at least eight years to a single Seattle public school, T.T.
