Lakshmi Mittal
Lakshmi Mittal flew from Teterboro to London on June 18, landing at the north Hertfordshire airfield aboard his Bombardier Global 7500 (G-LOBX) after a six-hour, twenty-minute transatlantic crossing. The trip comes at the end of a week that saw the executive chairman traveling between New York, Geneva, and Paris, according to recent flight data.
Mittal touched down in London the same week ArcelorMittal, along with thyssenkrupp Steel and voestalpine, issued a joint call for urgent reform of the EU Emissions Trading System, warning the current trajectory “risks destroying Europe’s industrial base,” per a statement published on Euronext. Mittal himself articulated the industry’s position in the Financial Times, arguing the choice is between a climate strategy that strengthens Europe or one that “hollows it out.” The flight also follows a symbolic vote in France’s National Assembly on June 11 to nationalize ArcelorMittal’s French operations, as covered by NEWS NEST, a response to planned job cuts of up to 630 positions.
London remains a hub for Mittal’s business and personal life, though he relocated his tax residency to Switzerland in 2024 and maintains a home in Dubai. His plane has shuttled between London, New York, and Geneva multiple times in the past week, reflecting the cross-border nature of his role steering the world’s largest steelmaker through a politically and economically turbulent moment for European industry.
