Samsung's Boeing 787-8 BBJ, tail HL8508, was tracked flying from Seoul Incheon (RKSI) to San Jose Mineta (KSJC) on September 19, touching down after a 9-hour 55-minute crossing at FL410. The aircraft, operated under Korean Air's VIP charter division, cleared the Pacific and settled onto the runway at 18:05 UTC — a routine but not unremarkable hop for a plane that has spent recent weeks shuttling between Asia, Europe, and the U.S. West Coast.

If Lee Jae-yong was aboard, the arrival lands the same week the global tech calendar turns toward the post-Sun Valley dealmaking season. Per a July report from the Seoul Economic Daily, Lee attended this year's Allen & Company gathering in Idaho, where he was expected to meet Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet's Sundar Pichai, and OpenAI's Sam Altman — and where Samsung's foundry arm, led by president Han Jin-man, was said to be hunting new AI chip customers. That conference wrapped in July, but the follow-on work — closing orders, checking the Taylor, Texas 2nm fab, and possibly prepping for Google Camp in late July — has a way of pulling the same aircraft back across the Pacific. A September stop in San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley, would put Lee in the same zip code as the very same Big Tech leaders he courted in Idaho, per the Herald Business report.

The flight also fits a pattern. This same BBJ flew King County to Gimpo in mid-June, a 5,183-mile hop that celebplanes logged with a burn of roughly 8,650 gallons of Jet-A. That was a round trip from the Pacific Northwest, likely tied to the same Sun Valley orbit. More recently, the aircraft tracked from Zurich to Incheon on September 9, then made a short domestic hop the same day — a sign of a busy executive schedule, or at least a well-utilized charter. Korean Air, which has expanded its VIP fleet with the new G800, has been the go-to for since the group sold its own jets in 2015.
