Gianluigi Aponte is an Italian-born Swiss billionaire shipping magnate who founded Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) in 1970 with his wife Rafaela, building it from a single-vessel operation into the world's largest container shipping company. Born in 1940 in Sorrento, Italy, he began his career as a sea captain before transitioning to banking and then founding MSC.
