Johann Rupert is chairman of Compagnie Financiere Richemont, the Swiss luxury goods giant behind Cartier, Montblanc, Van Cleef & Arpels, and other prestigious brands. He splits his time primarily between Cape Town (where he grew up in Stellenbosch), Geneva (where Richemont is headquartered), and London. He founded Richemont in 1988 through a restructuring of his father's Rembrandt Group. His Bombardier Global 6000, with a 6,000-nautical-mile range, connects these key locations nonstop. He is the second-richest person in South Africa and one of Africa's wealthiest individuals.
